Top 5 Day Trips Within 100 Kilometres of Gardens Centre Holiday Apartments

Gardens Holiday Apartments is an ideal location for many reasons – in the city, close to major attractions, shops nearby. But having Gardens as a base for your day trips is one of the biggest advantages. Here are our top 5 day trips to take within 100 kilometres of our apartments!

1. Beaches

Spending the day at the beach is one of the best day trips you could take! Cape Town has so many beaches to offer and none of them are ever far away. The Clifton beaches are only 7,2 kilometres away. They are busy over the summer, so head there as early as possible. Don’t forget to bring some cash as you can hire umbrellas and beach chairs for the day or buy a drink and ice cream from one of the vendors walking around. Other beaches nearby include Camps Bay (7 km), Oudekraal Beach (12 km), and Blouberg (18 km).

2. Stellenbosch (51 km)

Stellenbosch is known for its wine. Head to one of the many wine tasting spots in Stellies, or take the Stellenbosch wine bus, which has set routes and farms where you can hop-off. If you are looking to head to a market, the Route 44 Market is a must! Open over the weekend, no matter the weather, the market has many stalls with different food to try and local trinkets to buy. Hiking and picnicking at the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve is perfect for those who prefer spending time in nature. And for those who like their strawberries fresh, head to Polka Draai Farm to pick your own.

3. Cape Point (65 km)

Cape Point can be found in the southern section of the Table Mountain National Park. Not to be mistaken for the southernmost point of Africa (that’s Cape Agulhas!), Cape Point is the southern tip of the Cape Peninsula. It offers beautiful views, picnicking spots, and hiking and biking routes. Make sure to stop along one of the many coastal towns on your way there, like Kalk Bay and Simon’s Town.

4. Riebeek Kasteel (92 km)

Riebeek Kasteel is located in the Riebeek Valley in Swartland and is the perfect location if you don’t really want a plan for your day trip. The drive there is a beautiful one and the quaint town is ideal for wandering. There are loads of local produce to try, like craft beer and olive products. With shops and galleries lining the Main Road, you can spend the afternoon viewing the art and talent from the residents. And for the avid hikers among us, hike the Kasteelberg – a challenging route with stunning views once at the top.

5. Elgin (69 km)

The Elgin Valley is mainly aimed at the adventurous. Go zip-lining, mountain biking, or rock climbing, or explore the area on a quad bike or Segway. There are, of course, quite a few hiking trails as well. For those looking to take it a bit slower, there are wine farms and vineyards around to explore. Make sure to stop at the Peregrine Farm Stall for some of the best freshly squeezed apple juice!

Gardens is the perfect place for exploring the Western Cape, while having a warm bed to return to at the end of the day. Feel free to ask our friendly staff for their recommendations and don’t forget to tag us in your beautiful pictures!
